Brunei, Indonesia and Malaysia called on Saturday for an "immediate, durable and lasting ceasefire" in the fighting in the Gaza Strip. The countries said they were publishing their statement to give a good and fair reflection of the discussions on the situation in Gaza, during a meeting of leaders from the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC).

The Minister of Defense of Malaysia, Haji Mohamed bin Haji Hassan, called for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. According to him, "Malaysia condemns terrorism in all forms, including by taking people hostage and bombing civilian homes."

The Prime Minister, Anwar Ibrahim, announced that Malaysia will not recognize unilateral sanctions, in response to an American bill to impose sanctions against supporters of "militant groups operating in Palestine". "The bill may affect Malaysia only if it is proven that it provides support to Hamas or Islamic Jihad."
